This past Saturday, January 28, one of our students, Rylan F., competed at the State VFW - Voice of Democracy essay contest in Alexandria, La. Rylan wrote the essay at RHS in US History class guided by teacher Ms. Brandi Richard. His essay was selected as the District 7 winner and represented District 7 at the state contest. A total of 2,026 essays were entered from across the state of Louisiana. Rylan was one of 10 finalists. Rylan placed 2nd and was awarded a plaque and $200 from the VOD organization. On Monday, January 16, 2023, there will be no school in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. However, the City of Rayne MLK Committee would like to invite all RHS faculty and students to attend a Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration along with community leaders, local organizations, and guest speakers. Monday’s events will begin with a Remembrance Walk starting at 8:30 am at the MLK Jr Center followed by multiple events at the Rayne Civic Center including a Flag Raising at 9:45 am, a Health/Wellness Fair starting at 10:15 am, and a program to start at 11:00 am, with lunch following for all in attendance.
