Dear Acadia Parish Families,

We hope that you are enjoying the remainder of the summer break.  As we prepare for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, we want to inform you of a couple of important changes based on new laws passed by the state legislature and district-wide policies.

New Grading Scale Law

Act 428 of the 2024 Louisiana Regular Legislative Session mandates that all schools use a 10-point grading scale starting this school year.  The new grading scale is as follows:

A: 90-100

B: 80-89

C: 70-79

D: 60-69

F: 0-59

We are currently in the process of updating our local Pupil Progression Plan to reflect these changes.

Law Restricting Student Cell Phones

Act 313 of the 2024 Louisiana Regular Legislative Session restricts students from using cellphones on school property during the instructional day.  The law requires that cell phones either be turned off and properly stowed away or prohibited from being turned on and used during the instructional day.  We acknowledge the importance of safety and understand that parents prefer their students to have a device for emergencies.  Therefore, students will be allowed to bring cellphones to school, but they must be stowed away and completely powered off during the instructional day.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation throughout the school year as we implement these changes for the upcoming school year.  We look forward to ensuring a safe and productive learning environment for all our students.  Remember the return of our students to campuses is on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.

Sincerely,

Carol Tall

Superintendent
