IHS: Preparing Students for their Future

For the class of 2018 and beyond:

Jump Start is the state’s program for school districts, colleges, and businesses to collaborate in providing career courses and workplace experiences to high school students, allowing them to continue their education after high school while certifying them for the career fields most likely to lead to high-wage jobs.

The state has also implemented two diploma pathways:   TOPS/University Diploma or Jump Start/TOPS Tech Diploma.

TOPS University Diploma – ensures that students going to four-year colleges have taken a true college preparatory curriculum while in high school and have every chance possible to receive TOPS.

Students pursuing the TOPS University Pathway will continue to pursue core academic credits that mirror the TOPS Core curriculum.  Students may also pursue CLEP or dual enrollment credits.  Students graduating on the TOPS University Pathway may also take these Jump Start courses as electives and may earn a Industry Based Credential.

Jump Start TOPS Tech Diploma – Students of all interests and capabilities can graduate high school by earning industry credentials that provide new opportunities for a successful adulthood.

Students who complete a Jump Start TOPS Tech Pathway will have attained an industry credential and will also be prepared to continue to their post-secondary education.  Both 23 course credits and industry credentials ARE REQUIRED for graduation.
